| Cheyenne Marie Simmons, 9 years of age, along with her mother, was killed in an altercation with her mother's boyfriend, Troy Gordell, on Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Cheyenne's home in Pottsville, Texas, near Hamilton, Texas. Cheyenne was a fourth grade student at Ann Whitney Elementary in Hamilton at the time of her death. A massive manhunt was launched in search of Gordell who fled the scene. He was found on a ranch in the area and numerous members of law enforcement personnel from the area surrounded him.
